Two codes, one platform
Textiton has two types of accounts: Members (who receive and share) and Originators(who create new threads and have public profile pages). Each role has its own code. If you’re an Originator, you’re held to both.
For Members
Member Code of Conduct.
By becoming a Member of Textiton, you agree to:
- 1. Be who you say you are. Use your real first and last name. No impersonation. No fake identities.
- 2. Only share with people who already know you. The contacts you share Textiton messages with must be people whose phone numbers you already had — from your phone, your address book, your relationship with them. Never use Textiton with bulk-imported lists, scraped numbers, or people who don’t know who you are.
- 3. Respect NOT FOR ME instantly. When someone replies NOT FOR ME, you stop. No workarounds. No re-adding them later under a different sender. No “but I just wanted to share one more thing.” When they say no, the answer is no.
- 4. Never share another person’s phone number outside Textiton. The numbers in your phone are yours. The Textiton interactions of people you know are not yours to give to others, repost, or expose.
- 5. Don’t share private messages publicly. If an Originator marked a message as Personal/Private, you don’t forward it, screenshot it, or share its content elsewhere. That’s the deal.
- 6. Don’t harass anyone. This includes the Originators you follow, other Members you encounter, and anyone you interact with through the platform. No threats, no abuse, no targeted hostility.
- 7. No spam, no scams, no illegal content. You’re not running a side business out of Textiton. You’re not selling anything that hasn’t been disclosed. You’re not laundering predatory marketing through trusted relationships. If it would embarrass you to have it printed in your local paper, don’t send it.
Violations of this code can result in suspension or removal from the platform, with appeal available within 48 hours via privacy@textiton.com.
For Originators
Originator Code of Conduct.
If you’ve upgraded to Originator (created a profile page, agreed to broadcast to your circle), you also agree to:
- 1. Keep your profile accurate. Your name, photo, category, topics, and description must reflect who you actually are and what you actually share. Don’t bait-and-switch.
- 2. Stay in your lane. Send content that aligns with what your Members opted in for. If your circle joined to hear about your mayoral campaign and you start broadcasting MLM pitches, that’s a violation.
- 3. Honor your follow decisions. When you accept or decline a follow request, that decision is binding. Don’t accept then immediately remove. Don’t decline-and-block someone for retaliation.
- 4. Watch your NOT FOR ME rate. If your messages are getting NOT FOR ME from more than 1 in 4 recipients, that’s a signal. Either change your content, change your cadence, or be willing to discuss with our team.
- 5. Don’t sell or transfer your circle. The people who follow you trust YOU, not whoever you might sell your account to. You can’t transfer Members to another Originator without their explicit consent.
- 6. Mark Personal messages as Personal. If something shouldn’t be reshared, use the Personal toggle. Don’t expect Members to guess.
- 7. Don’t use Textiton for political advertising disguised as community communication. This applies even if you ARE running for office. Be honest about what your messages are. (Brian Donahue’s campaign messages clearly come from Brian Donahue’s campaign — that’s the standard.)
Violations of the Originator code can result in suspension of broadcast privileges (you’d revert to Member status), full account suspension, or removal — depending on severity.
What we will NEVER do
Our commitments to you.
We will never sell your phone number. Not to advertisers, organizations, or other users.
We will never let an Originator see your phone number. Only people who already had it can reach you.
We will never let advertisers reach you through Textiton. No ads, ever.
We will never share your audit trail with anyone but you. Your messages are your record.
We will respond to your reports. If you report a violation, a real human reviews it within 48 hours.
Reporting violations
Saw something? Tell us.
Email: report@textiton.com
In your account page: “Report this Member” or “Report this Originator” links on any profile or message.
We treat every report seriously. We respond within 48 hours. We don’t tell the reported party who reported them.
Updates to this code
This is a living document.
Minor clarifications are posted at textiton.com/code with an updated date.
Material changes are notified to all Members and Originators at least 30 days in advance.
If something here doesn’t match how Textiton actually feels to use, that’s a bug. Tell us.
